Patrick L. “Pat” McNulty, 1951-2023

It is with a heavy heart we announce Patrick L. McNulty of Indianapolis and French Lick, Indiana left this world on March 29th, 2023, at the age of 71. Pat was the first born of Leo P. and Marilyn J. (McCarty) McNulty on November 28th, 1951.

Pat graduated from Saint Philip Neri in 1965 and Cathedral High School in 1969, both in Indianapolis. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union for over 30 years. During that time, Pat achieved master carpenter status and taught in the apprenticeship program. He also contributed his time as a school board member in the Springs Valley school system.

Pat was very proud of his many accomplishments but the most he cherished was his Irish heritage and becoming a dual citizen of the United States and Ireland. On his many trips back to Ireland, Pat would visit his relatives in the Donegal and Galway area. He developed many friendships in the Kilcar, Donegal community and would share his experiences through stories to friends and relatives here at home.

He was a member of the Déardaoin band (Celtic for Thursday). The band got their name from the group who would come together at the Golden Ace Inn to play every Thursday night. There will be an empty chair and void this Thursday as the members all became close friends.

Déardaoin played at the Golden Ace Inn this past Saint Patrick’s Day. Pat dyed his hair green to make a splash! He certainly did as many people were quite surprised by this act from a usually reserved person. Unfortunately, when he tried to wash the dye out of his hair, the hair turned to a bright blue then turquoise.

When he was admitted to the hospital 10 days later, all the medical staff wanted to know the story of why this older gentleman dyed his hair turquoise. The funeral home has the task to try to get the blue out before his showing. We will not know the results until we see him Saturday.

Pat was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and achieved status of historian. He took great pride in writing articles for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day event. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and enjoyed reuniting with his grade school classmates.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mickey McNulty, and stepson Patrick A. Trainor. He will be truly missed by his wife Kathy McNulty, who let Pat be himself and do whatever he wanted! His sons Ryan and Kevin (Laura) McNulty, stepsons Donald III (Laura), Mathew (Kristin) and Paul (Kori) Trainor; his siblings Mike (Cathy), Tom (Carrie) and Jerry (Jacque) McNulty and Brenda (Pat) Conroy; 5 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.

Go n-éirí le Dia! (Go be with God)
